Featured World War II exhibits

World War II veteran S/Sgt. Conway Lumpkin, Longview, Texas, B-17 tail gunner, 92 Bomb Group, 326 Bomb Squadron.

Flying missions from Pottingham, England into Germany. Seven members were hosted by Greggton Antique Mall and Military Museum in 2003. Their visit was covered by the news media. Come in and hear each member's personal interview.

Major Durward Gaw, Longview, Texas, was a pilot during World War II stationed in Liverpool, England. He was qualified to fly fighter, bomber, and transport aircraft. His records are on display and indicate that he ferried all types of aircraft. He sometimes flew four different aircraft in one day.

Lt. Charles Stansbery, Johnson City, Tennessee, brother of Burton Stansbery, Longview Texas, was a B-17 navigator who died in combat over Germany on September 12, 1944. Members of his crew bailed out. Some were killed and three were captured by the Germans and taken prisoner. Don't miss this remarkable exhibit.

Lt. George Fish, San Francisco, California was a pilot who died in combat on December 11, 1943, while on a mission over Germany. Come by for a very moving story regarding a display of his artifacts.

Private Roy Moore, Longview, Texas, was a survivor of five major battles during World War II. An anti aircraft gunner, Roy landed on Utah beach. His five major battles led him to the Ramagan bridge. Roy's unit had just crossed the bridge when the Germans succeeded in bombing the bridge. Roy remarked that he looked up in time to see the bridge fall. Roy's daughter made a trip to Europe in 2001 and traced his five battles. While visiting Utah beach, she picked up a rock. That rock is part of this exhibit.

President George H. Bush a TBN pilot, torpedo bomber squadron 51 Saipan 1944. Come in to hear a moving story of an item that surfaced here in Longview that was from his squadron.

Other displays include personal items of two pilots who flew missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and eventually became pilots on Air Force One.
